Leather

Common defensive material pulled from many Pals through combat drops, butchering, and capture rewards, plus wandering merchants when you need a top-up without another hunt.

A commonly cited flow is farm Leather from hide-leaning wild Pals while you explore, then buy small packs from merchants when armor crafts stall mid-build. It feeds the Pelt Armor lane and a huge craft list (commonly cited around 158 recipes), so treat it as a soft-goods spine beside Cloth and later High Quality Cloth. Keep a chest near your early workbench so Handiwork Pals can pull hides without running the whole camp.

Don't treat Leather as a Ranch-only product. Ranch covers Wool and other farming drops, while Leather stays a hunt-and-merchant material that armor and many kits keep eating. Bank extras before you rebuild a full Pelt set after a death or a base move. Confirm drop tables and recipe sinks in game if a merchant price or recipe changes after an update.
