Pal AI is... quirky. If you build a beautiful, intricate three-story mansion, your Pals will inevitably teleport to the roof and starve.
Do not build on steep inclines without a massive foundation. Pals will frequently glitch through the terrain mesh when rendering in, falling to the bottom of the map and becoming incapacitated.
The Rule of Flat
Always build on the flattest terrain possible. If you must build on an incline, use foundations to create a massive, level platform.
The maximum height you can build without additional support pillars is 4 walls high. Plan your multi-story warehouses accordingly!
Spacing is Everything
Leave at least two foundations of space between large structures (like the Breeding Farm or Assembly Lines). Alpha Pals have massive hitboxes and will get stuck in narrow corridors.
The 3x3 Staircase
Pals struggle with single-width stairs. If you build vertically, make your staircases 3 units wide. Even large Pals can navigate this reliably.
Instead of stairs, consider using slanted roofs to create ramps. The AI pathing algorithms seem to navigate ramps much smoother than standard staircases.
