Dungeons

Instanced caves are one of the steadiest mid-to-late loops in 1.0 / 1.0.5. You walk a marked entrance, clear rooms, fight (or catch) the end Alpha, then open the exit chests. Layouts, lighting, and rewards were rebalanced for 1.0, and open random-dungeon mouths are easier to spot in the field.

Filter Dungeons on Map. That layer is separate from Fast Travel, Towers, Alphas, Effigies, Eggs, and Crude Oil.

Official context: level cap 80, 287 pals, tower timer 5 minutes. Neighbor pages: Bosses, Sealed Realms, Wildlife Sanctuaries, Feybreak.

What a random dungeon is

PieceWhat you get
EntranceWorld pin that opens an instance
LayoutPrebuilt room graph; enemies and chests shuffle inside the shell
End roomGuaranteed Alpha (or catchable boss Pal)
Exit chestsLoot after the boss; remedies / elixirs and gear notes are common community claims
DespawnEntrances relocate on a long timer; do not treat a pin as permanent

There is no tower-style clear timer inside a normal random dungeon. If you die, you leave the instance and can recover drops at the mouth in most reports. Confirm recovery behavior on your patch if settings differ.

1.0 changes that matter

  • Layout / lighting / reward rebalance across the random pool.
  • Random entrances are more visible outdoors.
  • Feybreak picked up about 15 extra random dungeon entrances (Feybreak).
  • Sealed Realm visuals now scale with the strength of the Pal inside, plus new variants (see Sealed Realms).
  • Ancient Ruins landed as a separate exploration / minigame loop for schematics.

Treat drop tables and “best legendary accessory farm” claims as soft. Community lists move between patches.

How to run the loop

  1. Filter Dungeons on Map and pick a pin near your Fast Travel net.
  2. Clear trash rooms. Leave a cheap marker item if you get turned around in mirrored halls.
  3. Expect flooded corridors or long halls to lean toward the boss more often than dead ends. Not a hard rule.
  4. Catch or kill the end Alpha. Catching usually pays more XP than a field Alpha of the same species in community notes.
  5. Open both exit chests, bank lotuses / Paldium / ore if the layout spawned nodes, then leave before the instance relocates.

Bring a fast ground mount for hallway spam and a flyer for the overworld hop between pins.

Sealed Realms (small boss rooms)

Sealed Realms are the compact boss domes, not the multi-room random caves. One room, one fixed Alpha, reliable farm once you know the pin. 1.0 retuned their look by Pal strength and added new variants.

Full guide: Sealed Realms. Cross-check bosses on list of all bosses and Bosses.

Ancient Ruins

Ancient Ruins are a 1.0 addition separate from random dungeons. You explore, run the ruin minigames, and chase schematics. Accessories now drop as schematics in the wider 1.0 economy, including ruin routes.

Full guide: Ancient Ruins. Treat ruins as a schematic / exploration side loop, not a substitute for the random dungeon Alpha farm.

Wildlife Sanctuaries (not dungeons)

Wildlife Sanctuaries were rebuilt as three conservation islands with drones and unique pals. They are a marked “go inside the island” loop, but they are not dungeons. Do not filter them under the Dungeons map layer.

Biome tiers and rewards

Random dungeons inherit a tier from the biome that hosts the entrance. Higher tiers mean higher enemy levels, tougher Alpha pools, and better lotus / elixir tiers in community write-ups. Endgame snow, volcano, Feybreak, and late island pins are the usual “push this for accessory / elixir density” targets.

Accessory names and drop chances change between patches. Confirm them in game.

Practical routing tips

  • Chain two or three open pins near one Fast Travel cluster instead of flying the whole map for a single entrance.
  • Bank Cavern Mushrooms and Paldium nodes when the layout is generous; early spheres and condenser materials love that income.
  • Some species (community examples include Mau and Killamari) show up more reliably in dungeon pools than in the open field. Treat that as a soft hunting tip, not a hard spawn list.
  • For Feybreak dungeon density, clear anti-air routes first so deaths do not erase the swim (Feybreak).
