The Ore/Coal Hybrid Base
In the mid-game, you need Refined Ingots (Ore + Coal). The most popular spot is the mountain peak at 190, -40. It features 6 Coal nodes and 8 Ore nodes perfectly clustered.
The Ore Pit (Patch 1.0.4+)
The latest patches added the Ore Mining Site building. This completely revolutionized the meta. You no longer need to build a base around natural Ore nodes. You can plop down an Ore Pit in a flat meadow, assign an Astegon, and watch the Ore roll in.
