Keywords & Mechanics
A glossary of the common mechanics and keywords you will encounter on cards.
Active / Rest
Cards in play exist in one of two states:
- Active (Vertical): The card is ready to be used.
- Rest (Horizontal): The card has been exhausted to pay a cost or attack, and cannot be used again until it is made Active during your next Standby Phase.
AUTO
An automatic ability. These abilities trigger implicitly when a specific condition is met, such as "When this Pal is placed on the Bench".
ACT
An activated ability. You must manually choose to activate this ability during your Main Phase by paying its specified cost (often resting the card, or resting Soul cards).
Work Suitability
Special abilities inherited from the video game. During your Main Phase, you may rest a Pal with Work Suitability to trigger a unique effect, such as drawing cards or recovering durability.
Strike
When a Pal with Strike deals damage to the opponent's Player HP, it deals damage equal to its Strike value instead of 1. By default, an unblocked attack deals 1 damage. A Pal with "Strike 2" deals 2 damage. Night, Assault, Taunt, Stealth, Interrupt, and Nocturnal are fully simulated in the trainer and vs AI.
